Trump Warns Canada Could Be “Eaten Up” by China
Posting on his Truth Social platform, Trump criticized Canada for opposing his proposed Golden Dome missile defense system, which is modeled after Israel’s Iron Dome.
“Canada is against The Golden Dome being built over Greenland, even though The Golden Dome would protect Canada. Instead, they voted in favor of doing business with China, who will ‘eat them up’ within the first year!” Trump wrote.
The president emphasized his intention for the Golden Dome to span Greenland—a territory he has previously threatened to annex from Denmark—arguing that controlling the Arctic would enable the US to counteract Russian and Chinese influence.
Earlier this week in Davos, Trump stated that Canada should appreciate American defense efforts, claiming that “Canada lives because of the United States.”
In response, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney rejected the notion that his nation’s achievements depended on the US and asserted that the global system grounded in “American hegemony” is currently “in the midst of a rupture.”
