Three Injured as Interception Debris Hits UAE Gas Facility

(MENAFN) Debris from an air defense interception struck the Habshan gas-processing facility in the UAE on Wednesday, wounding three people and triggering a fire that forced operations to a halt — an incident unfolding just hours after a temporary US-Iran ceasefire was declared.

The Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed the casualties comprised two Emirati nationals and one Indian citizen, while also disclosing that the facility had been taken offline in the immediate aftermath of the strike.

The incident underscores the volatile regional atmosphere that preceded Tuesday's ceasefire announcement, in which US President Donald Trump confirmed he agreed "to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks."

Tensions across the region had been spiraling since Israel and the US launched a coordinated military offensive against Iran on Feb. 28, a campaign that killed more than 1,340 people — including then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iranian authorities have not updated the toll in recent days.

Tehran answered with an expansive retaliatory campaign, unleashing drone and missile barrages against Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations sheltering US military personnel. The strikes inflicted casualties, battered critical infrastructure, and sent shockwaves through global markets and international aviation networks.
